7/19/2022 – Oak Island to Seneca Lake, Canal Ecology

The weather was perfect for a paddle on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. The diversity of wildlife on the canal never ceases to amaze me. Not only did we see numerous bird species like Heron, Osprey, King Fishers, ducks and geese, we also saw White Tail Deer, Painted Turtles and many different insects. The plant life is also very diverse. Water Lillies are in bloom and wild flowers abound along the banks. Willows, Aspen, and Cottonwood trees thrive on the waters edge. Every day on the Canal is an adventure and you never know what you might see.
